Guardiola plotting sensational bid to sign Barcelona favourite

Manchester City are reportedly considering making a summer move for Andres Iniesta, according to The Mirror.

The 33-year-old only agreed upon a “contract for life” at Barcelona back in October but that is thought to be a non-binding agreement for a player whose future at the club had been under scrutiny beforehand.

The midfielder is still a mainstay in the starting XI under Ernesto Valverde but the big money signings of Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho are likely to put pressure on his spot next season given the Spaniard’s advancing years.

His former boss, however, is confident that Iniesta could still play a big role for his City side in the future and would be keen to make a move should the playmaker become disillusioned with life at Camp Nou.

The Barcelona captain could follow in the footsteps of the former incumbent of the armband Xavi and look for one last challenge in his club career having spent the entirety of it with the blaugrana to now, expected to retire from international duty after the World Cup.

The iconic star has played predominantly from the left of a four-man midfield this season, starting 18 of 20 La Liga appearances and a further five times in the Champions League.
