Real Madrid star wants to extend stay

Real Madrid midfielder Isco has revealed he wants to sign a new contract and extend his stay after winning the Champions League at the weekend.

Isco was heavily linked with a return to Malaga and move to Tottenham last summer after struggling to establish himself as a first-team regular at Madrid but finished the campaign as one of their best players.

The Spain international was selected ahead of Gareth Bale in Saturday’s 4-1 win over Juventus as Madrid became the first side to win successive Champions Leagues and now the 25-year-old wants to commit his long-term future at the club.

“My contract? I hope to renew soon and there’s no better place to play football than Madrid,” Isco told Antena 3, via The Daily Mail after the Champions League final.

“It’s Madrid’s third Champions League in four years and my third as a professional. I could’ve never dreamt of this, but it’s thanks to this family, who made it easier.

“The first half was much more difficult against a great team in all aspects. In the second half, we saw the best Madrid performance of the entire season.”

Juventus are one of the teams that have previously been linked with a move for Isco but all suitors will now have to look at alternative targets with Isco determined to extend his stay beyond his current deal that is due to expire at the end of next season.

In fact, of Madrid players that started at least 15 league matches in 2017 only Cristiano Ronaldo (7.55) and Toni Kroos (7.54) averaged a higher WhoScored rating than Isco (7.40).
