French duo agree new Arsenal deals

Olivier Giroud and Francis Coquelin have agreed terms on fresh deals with Arsenal, according to French news outlet RMC, via Get French Football.

Coquelin has established himself as a fixture in the Arsenal first-team after making the most of an injury crisis midway through the 2014/15 campaign.

The 25-year-old’s existing deal is due to expire in 2019 but the tenacious midfielder has reportedly agreed terms to extend his Arsenal deal by a further two years.

Coquelin is not the only Frenchman set to extend his stay at the Emirates, with Arsenal also poised to announce a new deal for Giroud.

The 30-year-old’s current contract is due to expire in 2018, although his decision to extend his stay with Arsenal will perhaps raise eyebrows given how he has dropped down the pecking order this season.

Giroud is yet to start a Premier League game this season and is now below Alexis Sanchez in the pecking order to the position as the lone frontman. Nevertheless, Giroud has still had a positive impact for Arsenal when called upon by Arsene Wenger and has reportedly been handed an extra 12 months on top of his current deal.

In fact, of players to have scored more than one Premier League goal this season, Giroud has scored at a better rate than any other player (1 every 45 minutes).
