Roma enquire for Manchester United outcast

Roma have expressed an interest in giving Adnan Januzaj an escape route from his Manchester United hell, reports Belgium outlet DhNet, via Football Italia.

Januzaj spent last season on loan at Sunderland but struggled to make any real impression at the relegated club, while Jose Mourinho confirmed in April that he had already made his mind up on the youngster’s future.

Mourinho didn’t confirm whether Januzaj featured in his plans at Old Trafford but he is expected to be sold this summer after failing to make any progress on his promising start to life at United.

The 22-year-old has endured difficult loan spells at Borussia Dortmund and now Sunderland since bursting onto the scene in the 2013/14 campaign, but Roma’s new sporting director Monchi is intrigued by the Belgium international.

Januzaj will only have 12 months remaining on his existing United deal next month but Roma can expect competition from Spanish side Real Sociedad, who would realistically be able to offer regular first team football.

Of players that started more than 16 Premier League games last season, only Eden Hazard (1 every 21 minutes of action), Wilfried Zaha (every 21.3 minutes) and Mousa Dembele (every 26.5 minutes) required fewer minutes per successful dribble than Januzaj (every 28.6 minutes).
