Liverpool boss Klopp pulling out all the stops to sign PSG phenom
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is believed to have contacted Kylian Mbappe's father in a bid to convince the Frenchman to move to Anfield as the Reds head coach pulls out all the stops to sign the young forward, reports Le10 Sport.
Mbappe's future has been up in the air for a while now and while PSG are eager to see the France international pen a new deal and extend his current contract beyond 2022, the 21-year-old has been subject to intense speculation regarding a possible exit.
Real Madrid are the rumoured frontrunners to sign Mbappe, but Liverpool have now emerged as contenders to land the fourth best rated player in Europe's top five leagues.
Los Blancos have also been linked with a move for Liverpool star Sadio Mane and it remains to be seen how Real Madrid's interest in the Senegal international would impact their push for Mbappe.
Mbappe is an admirer of Klopp's Liverpool and in January said of the Premier League leaders: "What Liverpool do in this moment is amazing. They're like a machine, they’ve found a rhythm and are like ‘we play again, we play again’.
"When you watch you think everything’s easy but that’s not easy. The guys are focused, they play games every three days and they win, they win, they win.
"Now the problem is that everybody watches Liverpool, and everybody watches what we can do against them, so now they have to show they are strong again but it’s a very good team with a very good manager."
However, PSG would likely demand a world record fee for Mbappe in a bid to deter potential suitors in a player who has garnered a WhoScored rating of 8.14 this season.
