Manchester City midfielder signs new one-year deal

Manchester City have announced David Silva has put pen to paper on a new 12-month contract extension keeping him at the club until June 2020.

Pep Guardiola has been full of praise for the 31-year-old since arriving at the club over 12 months ago and only on Tuesday spoke about his desire for Silva to prolong his City stay.

The Spain international has firmly established himself as one of the club’s all-time greats and his new deal will take him through to 10 years at the Etihad.

“I am so happy to have committed my future to City,” he told the club’s official website.

“I am incredibly proud of what I have achieved at City in my seven-and-a-half seasons here and with Pep in charge, I feel we are in a great position to win trophies this season and beyond.

“The style of football we are playing is a pleasure to be a part of and I look forward to winning more titles in the years to come.”

Silva has been in startling form for City this season and played an integral part in their unbeaten start to the league campaign.

In fact, only Celta Vigo attacker Pione Sisto has provided as many assists as Silva (8) in Europe’s top five leagues this term.
