Arsenal eye up move for young goalkeeper

Arsenal are weighing up a possible move for Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, reports the London Evening Standard.

Pickford has established himself as the Black Cats’ number one this season, with a number of teams keen on the 22-year-old.

With questions looming over Petr Cech’s immediate future at the Emirates following a dip in form, Arsenal are exploring the idea of signing Pickford next month.

Arsenal, though, would immediately loan Pickford back to Sunderland, with the shotstopper crucial in the Black Cats’ quest to stave off relegation.

Sunderland are under no pressure to sell Pickford after he signed a new deal at the Stadium of Light almost a year ago, with his current contract now running until 2020.

Being able to keep him on loan for the remainder of the season would appeal to the club, though, if they do sell.

Tottenham, Manchester City and Everton have all been linked with a move for the youngster, which could trigger a potential transfer scramble for Pickford.

It’s little surprise he is attracting interest with Pickford making 67 saves this season, the second highest return in the Premier League.
