Chelsea ace confirms Mourinho wanted Manchester United reunion this season

Chelsea winger Willian has confirmed Jose Mourinho wanted to take him to Manchester United last summer.

United spent more than £150m on new players in the summer and that spending could gone up further had Mourinho been successful in taking Willian from Stamford Bridge to Old Trafford with him.

Mourinho was sacked as Chelsea manager last season after their disastrous defence of the Premier League title but Willian was arguably the only Chelsea player that could be proud of their performances during Mourinho’s final campaign in charge.

The 28-year-old has struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular this season after dealing with the tragic loss of his mother but is on course for a second Premier League winners’ medal.

“Concrete, I do not know,” Willian told Globo Esporte, via Sky Sports when asked about United’s move for him last summer. “But there was interest, yes. From Manchester United, because Mourinho is there too.

“From other clubs I do not know, but there are always some things on the Internet. But I’m glad to hear that there are clubs that admire my work.”

Willian has only started 12 league games this season and been forced to make another eight appearances from the bench. However, he has still managed five goals and one assist as he fights with Pedro for the other position in the front three alongside Diego Costa and Eden Hazard.

Since the start of last season, Willian has scored at least six more direct free-kicks than any other Chelsea player (7).
