No bid for Austin, says Ferdinand

Queens Park Rangers are yet to receive a firm offer from Newcastle United for Charlie Austin, according to the club’s director of football Les Ferdinand.

Austin scored 18 goals in the Premier League last season and has been strongly linked with a move away from Loftus Road after the club failed to escape relegation to the Championship last term.

Steve McClaren is reportedly keen on bringing the England hopeful to St. James' Park this summer, but is reluctant to match QPR’s £15m valuation.

This sentiment is backed up by Ferdinand, who insists no firm approach has been made by the Magpies.

"Newcastle might have enquired by speaking to the chairman, but no bid has come in from Newcastle for Charlie," Ferdinand said.

Austin's 18 league goals represented 42.9% of QPR's output last season - the biggest individual contribution of any player last term.
