Manchester City line up big money move for Manchester United target

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is hoping to secure the services of Manchester United target and Leicester centre-back Harry Maguire, reports the Sun on Sunday.

However, the Foxes may hold out for upwards of £75m, with that the fee Liverpool paid Southampton for Virgil van Dijk 18 months ago.

Maguire is the ideal ball playing defender that Guardiola wants to see added to the squad as a long-term replacement for Vincent Kompany.

The 26-year-old would also bolster the club’s home grown quota, which would serve as a boost for Guardiola and City, and having played, and impressed alongside, John Stones at the World Cup, the Spaniard would seek to use this to his advantage.

The Foxes may demand a fee of around £90m for Maguire, who has come on leaps and bounds since arriving from Hull for £17m in 2017.

If Leicester do decide to cash in on one of their centre-back stars, then United would likely push for a move too with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen on landing defensive reinforcements.

United have been heavily linked with a move for Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly, but a significant overhaul is required at Old Trafford.

Maguire is expected to start for Leicester today, who welcome top-four chasing Arsenal to the King Power Stadium.
