Sheffield United see bid for promising Norwegian rejected

Sheffield United have seen a bid for Genk midfielder Sander Berge rejected, according to VG Sporten.

The young Norway international is one of the best rated young midfielders on the continent and the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool had been credited with an interest in the 21-year-old in recent weeks.

It's United, though, who are believed to have made the first move for Berge, who started all six of Genk's Champions League group stage matches.

However, Genk are thought to have rejected a bid of around £17m for the youngster, with the Belgian outfit valuing the midfielder above that price.

It remains to be seen whether the Blades will return with an improved bid for Berge ahead of the transfer deadline next week.

Goals from Muhamed Besic and Oliver Norwood saw Sheffield United secure their spot in the next round of the FA Cup as they overcame Championship side Millwall 2-0 at the Den on Saturday.

Genk, meanwhile, fell to a heavy 4-1 loss at Gent, with Berge playing the full 90 minutes in the resounding defeat.
