Marseille have announced they have signed Aston Villa defender Jordan Amavi on a season-long loan deal with a view to making the switch permanent in a reported £7.2m deal.
Amavi, who dropped down the pecking order at Villa after returning from a serious knee injury 12 months ago, flew to France on Wednesday to undergo his medical with the French side.
The former France U21 international was poised to join Sevilla earlier in the summer but that move collapsed following his medical with Eduardo Berizzo’s side.
Steve Bruce confirmed after Villa’s League Cup win over Colchester on Wednesday that Amavi and Leandro Bacuna were both on the verge of leaving the Championship giants.
After averaging a combined 3.95 tackles and interceptions per league game from August 2014 to November 2015, Amavi has only managed 1.8 per game since returning from injury in August 2016.
