Manchester United duo doubts for England’s June internationals
Crocked Manchester United duo Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are doubts for England’s June internationals against Scotland and France, claims The Daily Mail.
Both United defenders suffered potential season-ending injuries during the last international break and aren’t expected to feature against for Jose Mourinho this season.
However, it has now emerged that Jones, who suffered a nasty toe injury in a clash with his United teammate and Smalling, who has since been pictured wearing a knee brace, could now miss the next batch of international fixtures.
Gareth Southgate’s squad continue their qualification process for the 2018 World Cup with a fixture against Scotland at the end of the season before finishing the campaign with a friendly against Euro 2016 finalists France.
With Jones and Smalling doubts, it could allow Michael Keane to pick up from where he left off during the last international break after making an assured start to life in an England shirt last month.
Smalling has only started 10 league games for United this season, while Jones has started four more than his United teammate and both should also be concerned about their own futures at Old Trafford. Their latest injuries could prove the last straw for Mourinho, who is expected to strengthen defensively in the summer.
