Arsenal have not made a breakthrough in contract talks with Aaron Ramsey and there are growing fears the club will be forced to sell in January, claims The Sun.
Ramsey’s existing deal is due to expire at the end of the season and the Gunners had hoped to resolve his future before the start of the current campaign.
Chelsea and Manchester United both expressed an interest in signing Ramsey during the summer and they are monitoring his future at the Emirates.
Arsenal forked out huge new deals for the likes of Mesut Ozil, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the start of the year and Ramsey wants a similar wage hike on his current £110,000-a-week wages.
Gunners’ boss Unai Emery made it clear during pre-season he wants Ramsey to renew but the club are in a difficult position as they are simultaneously looking to trim their wage bill.
Arsenal were desperate to avoid a similar situation with Ramsey as they have experienced with the likes of Ozil, Alex Oxalde-Chamberlain and Alexis Sanchez in the past.
Emery’s side were forced to sell the latter pair and now there are fears Ramsey will have to be sold in January if new terms are not agreed by then in order to avoid letting him go for nothing next summer.
Ramsey was dropped to the bench in Arsenal’s 3-2 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday and now has added competition in midfield following the arrivals of summer signings Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi.
Since the start of last season only Alexandre Lacazette (18) has scored more goals than Ramsey in all competitions (11).
