Thomas Vermaelen is in advanced talks to move to Roma on loan from Barcelona, reports the Sun on Sunday.
The former Arsenal defender has struggled with injuries following his move to Camp Nou two years ago, making just seven league starts as a result.
Vermaelen started four matches for Belgium at Euro 2016, but injury cut short his tournament, though that hasn’t deterred Roma from making an approach for the 30-year-old.
Roma boss Luciano Spalletti recently praised Vermaelen and confirmed that the club are close to signing the defender.
“Vermaelen is a player with experience and quality,” Spalletti said
“He can build the play from the back and has great character.
“These players are used to playing important European matches. The talks are advanced even though for now I cannot say that it is done.”
