Zlatan Ibrahimovic wants to stay at Manchester United, says agent

The agent of Zlatan Ibrahimovic has revealed the striker wants to sign a new contract and stay at Manchester United but has warned Jose Mourinho’s side he would be open to play for another Premier League side.

Ibrahimovic is currently recovering from a serious knee injury suffered back in March that threatened to end his career and isn’t expected back to full fitness until the end of 2017, leaving his long-term future up in the air.

The 35-year-old joined United on an initial one-year deal last summer but Jose Mourinho’s side had been working hard to get Ibrahimovic to extend his stay into next season before the veteran striker crumbled with injury in a Europa League match against Anderlecht.

United are no longer expected to retain Ibrahimovic’s services given he could miss the first half of next season but his agent, Mino Raiola, has revealed the former Sweden international is keen to stay at Old Trafford.

Asked whether Ibrahimovic wants to stay at United, Raiola told talkSPORT: “Oh, yes. He wants to stay in England he wants to stay at the top and if he sees that he can be a valuable asset for Manchester United, then why not Manchester United?

“He can be a valuable asset for some other top clubs also. But I think it is respectful to talk to Manchester United and see what all parties want.”

“We have a lot of offers and ideas and we have to evaluate them. He has had a fantastic time at Manchester United and it is up to the club and myself to see what the future brings. For now, it is important he recovers well and then we will see.”

Ibrahimovic proved a revelation for United prior to injury and went a long way to rubbishing all of his pre-season critics that claimed he would not be able to make the transition to the Premier League at his age after blowing away Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain.

In fact, Ibrahimovic has scored more league goals than any other United player in the last two seasons despite only playing eight months of the current campaign (17).
