Juventus midfielder furious after Champions League snub

Emre Can has revealed he is fuming with Juventus after being left out of their 25-man squad for the Champions League this season.

Juventus submitted their squad list for the Champions League group stages earlier this week and Maurizio Sarri excluded Can and Mario Mandzukic.

Can has endured a difficult time at Juventus since leaving Liverpool to join the Serie A giants on a free transfer in the summer of 2018.

The Germany international’s first season at Juventus was disrupted through injury and now his future at the club has plunged into doubt.

Juventus signed Aaron Ramsey on a free transfer following his release from Arsenal this summer and Can has dropped further down the pecking order for places under new boss Sarri.

The former Chelsea manager has even picked 32-year-old Sami Khedira in his plans for the Champions League despite the fact the club tried to offload him this summer.

Can has revealed he only found out about the news while on international duty with Germany and has accused Juventus of breaking promises.

“The fact that I am not in the Champions League squad is extremely shocking for me, mainly because I was promised something different last week,” The Guardian quote Can as saying.

“There were talks with other clubs [before the transfer window closed] and one of the conditions for me to stay was to be part of the Champions League squad.”

“On Tuesday they phoned me and told me, in a conversation that didn’t even last a minute, that I was not on the list and they didn’t give an explanation.

“That does make me angry and furious because I think that I played well last season, above all in the Champions League.

“I really can’t understand this and will now see what I decide to do from here and I will seek talks with the club next week.”

The 25-year-old has only managed 31 minutes of playing time in Juventus’ first two league games of the season and was limited to just 20 starts in Serie A last term.

Since the beginning of last season, Juventus have lost just one of 20 league matches Can has not started compared to three defeats in 20 matches the German has started.
