Chelsea considering turning attention to Liverpool target

Chelsea are weighing up the idea of turning their attention to RB Leipzig striker and Liverpool target Timo Werner should he show a willingness to move to Stamford Bridge, reports ESPN. 

Werner has emerged as a priority target for Liverpool, but a switch to Anfield remains up in the air at the moment due to the financial uncertainty as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. 

However, with the Bundesliga back in action and the Premier League, Serie A and LaLiga set to resume this month, a summer move to England is back on the cards. 

The Reds, though, may face competition from Chelsea, who are in the market for a new striker in the off-season. 

Olivier Giroud may have signed a one-year contract extension with the west London side, yet that was more to protect his value as the Frenchman was a free agent this summer. 

Indeed, Lampard had been willing to sanction Giroud's sale in January provided he could bring in a suitable replacement and it saw Chelsea linked with moves for Dries Mertens and Moussa Dembele. 

Lyon were reluctant to sell Dembele at the turn of the year and Chelsea were put off by his £80m valuation. 

That fee would likely be lower, but the Blues could return for Werner due to his appealing £49m release clause. 

The 24-year-old bagged his 25th league goal of the season in RB Leipzig's 4-2 win at FC Koln on Monday night and supposedly favours a move to Liverpool and the chance to link up with Jurgen Klopp.
