Manchester United rule out De Gea leaving for Madrid

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has told Real Madrid to look elsewhere for a new goalkeeper after ruling out David de Gea’s departure.

Madrid are widely expected to sign a world class goalkeeper to replace Keylor Navas in the summer and De Gea features at the top of their list.

The Spanish giants have been heavily linked with a move for De Gea in the past and are expected to rekindle their interest at the end of the season.

De Gea’s current United contract is due to expire in 2019 but the Red Devils want to hand him a new long-term deal before the 2018 World Cup.

Madrid are also interested in Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and Mourinho has warned his former club that they will not succeed if they opt to pursue De Gea.

“Do you think a club that is trying to attract the best players is a club that is open to lose their best players?” The Daily Mirror quote Mourinho as saying.

“It makes no sense. We have to attract the best players like we did with Alexis [Sanchez], [Nemanja] Matic, [Paul] Pogba and so on. So we don’t let our best players go.”

No goalkeeper has kept more clean sheets than De Gea (15) in Europe’s top five leagues this season.
