Stoke have announced Mame Biram Diouf has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal that runs until June 2020.
Diouf, who had entered the final 12 months of his previous deal, has spent the last three years with Stoke after securing a Premier League return from German side Hannover in 2014.
The former Manchester United striker has struggled to stay fit in the last few seasons but has always been a threat for Mark Hughes when available.
Stoke have now announced they have secured the 29-year-old’s future for the next three seasons.
“I’m really pleased to have signed a new contract,” Diouf told the club’s official website. I’ve been here for three years now and feel really settled, really part of the club. My family are settled as well and that’s really important to me.
“I want to play as a striker but I’m a football player and will play wherever the manager asks me to and do my best.”
In his debut campaign for Stoke, Diouf finished the season with 11 goals from 34 league games. However, he has struggled with injuries since then and only started 27 league games over the next two seasons.
However, Diouf has established himself in Hughes’ first team this season, starting three of their opening four league matches.
Since August 2015, Stoke actually have a better win ratio in the league without Diouf in the starting XI (38%), compared to when he has featured from the off (23.3%).
Those statistics also show that Stoke score fewer goals (0.97) and concede more goals (1.67) per game with Diouf starting compared to when he is out the team (1.14 goals scored per game & 1.3 goals conceded per game).
