Watford agree club-record fee for AC Milan striker

Watford have reached a club-record €16m (£13.7m) agreement with AC Milan for M’Baye Niang but are waiting for the striker to decide whether he wants to join the club, reports The Guardian.

Walter Mazzarri wants to sign a new striker this month in order to ease the goalscoring burden currently on Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo and the board have backed their manager in the transfer window with a club-record sum.

The Hornets only broke their own transfer record when they paid £13m to sign Roberto Pereyra in the summer and now look set for another raid of Serie A, although Niang is still undecided whether he wants to join Watford at this stage.

If Watford are looking to find a solution for their goalscoring woes, then Niang may not be the ideal signing to turn their fortunes around. Despite being linked with a number of big Premier League teams in the past, the 22-year-old has only scored three league goals this season and hasn’t found the back of the net since October.
