Barcelona poised to re-sign Serie A star

Barcelona direct Roberto Fernandez has confirmed the club are thinking about triggering the buy-back clause in Gerard Deulofeu’s contract at the end of the season.

Deulofeu left Barcelona to join Everton on a full-time basis in 2015 but dropped down the pecking order under Ronald Koeman at Goodison Park this season before being loaned out to AC Milan for the remainder of the season back in January.

The 23-year-old has made a real impact for Milan since his arrival and his performances have even caught the eye of his former club, who have an option to bring him back to the Camp Nou for €12m (£10.2m) this summer.

“We are undoubtedly considering a Deulofeu recall for next season,” Fernandez told TV3 in Spain, via Football Italia. “Of course we are contemplating activating the option so he can play for Barca next term.”

Deulofeu’s performances for Milan have been so impressive that they even earned him a call up to the Spain squad where he has even opened his account on the international stage.

In fact, only Giacomo Bonaventura (7.39) has secured a higher WhoScored rating in Serie A for Milan this season than Deulofeu (7.39), having scored or assisted five goals in 12 appearances. Not only that, but an average of 3.1 dribbles per game is only bettered by Bonaventura (3.2) for Vincenzo Montella’s side.
