Chelsea want Manchester United forward

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial will be included on a list of transfer targets Chelsea will propose to Antonio Conte’s successor this summer, claims The Daily Mail.

Conte is expected to leave Chelsea after Saturday’s FA Cup final following two whirlwind years at the club, with the likes of Luis Enrique and Maurizio Sarri earmarked as potential replacements.

Even though Chelsea are unsure who their manager will be next season, the Blues are in the process of drafting a list of potential transfer targets for the summer.

Martial will feature on the list after rejecting United’s offer of a new contract earlier this month, although it remains to be seen whether Jose Mourinho would sanction a deal to his former club.

The 22-year-old has failed to nail down a regular starting berth under Mourinho in the last two years and prepared to leave United this summer in search of more first-team chances.

Martial was left out of Didier Deschamps’ 23-man France squad for the 2018 World Cup on Thursday, which will likely have pushed him closer to an Old Trafford exit this summer.

The United No.11 made more league appearances this season (30) than he did in his first season under Mourinho (25), but only started 18 times in each campaign.

His productivity has improved this term, however, playing a direct hand in 14 goals compared to 10 in the 2016/17 campaign.

Moreover, only Olivier Giroud scored or assisted as many goals as Martial (6) of all substitutes in the Premier League this season.
