Portuguese defender extends Southampton contract

Southampton have announced Cedric Soares has put pen to paper on a new four-year deal keeping him at the club until 2020.

Soares, 24, still had three years to run on the deal he signed when he joined from Sporting last summer.

However, Southampton have moved to tie down his long-term future following his contribution to Portugal’s Euro 2016 winning side.

“I’m really happy. The club has given me more confidence and they show me that they also trust in my football,” Soares told Southampton’s official website.

“I am really happy to be part of this club and be part of this family as well.”
