Arsenal agree deal for second summer signing

Arsenal have completed a £16m deal for Borussia Dortmund centre-back Sokratis, claims The Daily Telegraph.

Unai Emery wants to overhaul the club’s defensive options this summer and has already signed Juventus veteran Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move for Sokratis since Emery replaced Arsene Wenger last month and now the Premier League outfit have secured his services.

Sokratis entered the final 12 months of his Dortmund deal and Arsenal have managed to pull of a cut-price deal for the experienced 30-year-old centre-back.

New Arsenal head of recruitment Sven Mislintat has now signed three players with a Dortmund background after prising Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the club in January.

Arsenal agree deal for second summer signing

Arsenal have made a clear step in the direction of adding experience to their squad this summer, having previously targeted signings that have time to develop and add sell-on value.

In the last three Bundesliga campaigns, only three players have completed more passes in their own half of the pitch than Sokratis (3198).
