Simeone eyes Premier League after Atletico

Diego Simeone is interested in managing in the Premier League when he leaves Atletico Madrid at the end of next season, reports The Daily Mail.

Atletico announced they had agreed to reduce the remaining four years of Simeone’s deal to ensure he was free to leave in 2018, with Italy and England high on his agenda.

The Argentine manager was linked with a switch to Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain in the summer before committing his immediate future to Atletico, but it has now emerged he would like to make the Premier League his next step.

Someone has previously been touted as a possible replacement for Arsene Wenger at Arsenal and the Frenchman’s contract is due to expire at the end of this season, although another extension is thought to be on the way.

However, it could work out that Wenger steps down at the end of next season, depending on how Arsenal fare up until then, which would pave the way for Simeone to come to England, with the other Premier League clubs settled with managers.

Atletico have started the season in typical fashion. They are one of three teams in Spain yet to suffer defeat and boost the best defensive record in Europe’s top five leagues (three goals conceded). Simeone’s side start the weekend joint top of La Liga, having won five of their last six.
