Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is interested in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal at the end of the season, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Mourinho has identified central midfield as a key area to address at the end of the season with Michael Carrick set to retire and Marouane Fellaini on course to leave for pastures new.

United have already been linked with the likes of Valencia starlet Carlos Soler and Nice midfield general Jean Seri, but now Mourinho has earmarked a potential move for Vidal.

The 30-year-old is widely expected to leave Bayern in the summer following news Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka will move to the Allianz Arena at the end of the season.

Vidal has regularly been linked with a move to the Premier League and now Mourinho wants to hand him the chance of playing in England alongside Chilean team-mate Alexis Sanchez.

The Bayern midfielder has already spoken about his desire to play alongside Sanchez at club level in the past and now that could materialise if Mourinho firms up his interest at the end of the season.

Vidal is currently the highest WhoScored rated player in the Bundesliga (7.66) after playing a direct hand in eight goals in 17 appearances (six goals, two assists).

Furthermore, no central midfielder has won the WhoScored Man of the Match award more times in the Bundesliga this term than Vidal (4).
