Chelsea only have days to sign Aubameyang, say Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has warned Chelsea they only have a few more days to submit an offer for star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Aubameyang has been identified as a top transfer target by Antonio Conte in the wake of Romelu Lukaku’s decision to turn down a return to Stamford Bridge in favour of a reunion with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.

Reports emerged over the weekend claiming Chelsea are preparing a £65m offer for the Gabon international and Dortmund, who are resigned to losing their star striker, have told the Premier League champions they will only wait a few more days for clubs to get a deal done.

“We have not received any offers for the player,” Watzke told Welt am Sonntag. “We will wait a few more days, but not for much longer than that.

“Personally, I’d be happy if Pierre were to remain. Obviously there are clubs in the world where Aubameyang could earn more than he does here.”

The 28-year-old was heavily linked with a stunning £70m move to China before their transfer window shut, while AC Milan have also confirmed an interest in the Bundesliga striker, although now appear set to sign Real Madrid outcast Alvaro Morata.

Dortmund have reportedly earmarked Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud as the ideal frontman to replace Aubameyang if Chelsea firm up their interest with an official bid.

Only Lionel Messi (37) and Edinson Cavani (35) scored more goals in Europe’s top five leagues last season than Aubameyang (31). However, only three players missed more clear-cut chances than the Dortmund ace last term (25).
