Liverpool have failed with a €29m (£25m) bid for Gladbach midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud, according to The Sun, via Get German Football.
Dahoud, 20, has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield this summer and with only 12 months remaining on his existing deal Jurgen Klopp was hopeful of luring the central midfielder away from the Bundesliga club.
However, after losing Granit Xhaka, Gladbach have been firm on their stance with Dahoud’s availability and do not want to let him go at any cost.
No player aged 21 and under made more tackles and interceptions in the Bundesliga last season than Dahoud (150).
