Gladbach sack Schubert

Borussia M. Gladbach have announced they have sacked Andre Schubert as first team manager after a serious decline in results.

Schubert, 45, was promoted to replace Lucien Favre on an interim basis to begin with before convincing the board to hand him the full time role after making a spectacular start.

Gladbach had lost their opening five league matches before Schubert took interim charge and the 45-year-old went unbeaten during his first 10 league games, which included six straight wins to kickstart his tenure.

However, the Bundesliga side have made a terrible start to the campaign and are only three points clear of the relegation play-off spot following their 2-1 home defeat to Wolfsburg on Tuesday, which proved the last straw for the Gladbach board.

“We have held a lot of talks in recent days, analysed our on-the-pitch development and discussed a great deal, and together with Andre we have come to the conclusion that it is better for both sides to call an end to our collaboration,” Max Eberl, Gladbach’s sporting director, told the club's official website.
