Jamie Vardy will serve a three-match suspension after Leicester City failed in their attempts to overturn his dismissal from their draw against Stoke last weekend, the Football Association has confirmed.
Craig Pawson showed Vardy a straight red card in the 28th minute of Leicester’s 2-2 draw with Stoke but the reigning Premier League champions appealed the decision on the ground of wrongful dismissal.
Claudio Ranieri’s side claimed Vardy had been knocked off balance moments prior to his two-footed challenge on Stoke striker Mame Biram Diouf, but the FA has upheld their appeal and the England international will now serve an automatic three-match ban.
“Jamie Vardy will serve a three-match suspension with immediate effect after his wrongful dismissal claim was rejected, following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing,” a statement read on the FA’s official website.
It means Vardy will now miss back-to-back home games against Everton and West Ham on Boxing Day and New Years Eve, respectively, as well as their trip to Middlesbrough on January 2.
Vardy has endured a difficult season off the back of Leicester’s stunning Premier League winning campaign last term but appeared to have returned with a bang when he netted the first hat-trick of his Premier League career in a 4-2 win over Manchester City earlier this month.
