Just days after Atlanta United announced they have secured Josef Martinez’s services from Torino on a permanent basis; they will now be without their star striker for 4-6 weeks because of injury.
Martinez, 23, suffered a quad injury during the international break on duty with the Venezuela national team during their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign and could now be sidelined for nearly two months.
It comes as a huge blow for Atlanta, who have made a flying start to their first ever campaign in MLS having won two of their opening three games, scoring 11 goals in that time.
However, they will now have to manage a sizeable chunk of the regular season without a player that has scored five of those goals. In fact, he has scored more goals than any other player in MLS so far this season.
