Tottenham closing in on club record deal for new midfielder

Tottenham are on the brink of landing Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele in a club record deal worth as much as £55m, claims The Daily Telegraph.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have not made a single signing since January 2018 but the Tottenham manager has been given assurances about money to spend this summer.

Tottenham have already had a club record bid for Real Betis ace Giovani Lo Celso rejected this summer and are linked with moves for Bruno Fernandes and Julian Draxler.

However, Tottenham are close to making Ndombele their first signing of the summer and a deal would surpass the £42m they paid Ajax for Davinson Sanchez in 2017.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed Ndombele has asked to leave the club this summer and Tottenham look set to beat Premier League rivals Manchester City and Manchester United to his signature.

Both Manchester teams have been linked with a move for the 22-year-old, though have cooled their interest and are now targeting other midfielders.

Of players who have attempted at least 100 dribbles in Ligue 1 since August 2017, Ndombele has the best success rate (75.1%).
