Former international teammate Lukas Podolski has revealed Bastian Schweinsteiger could leave Manchester United for Major League Soccer.
Schweinsteiger, 33, has been forced to train with the Manchester United reserves by manager Jose Mourinho and has no future at the club.
United are desperate to get the ex-Germany international off their wage bill but with two years remaining on his existing deal they may struggle, although Podolski has revealed MLS could be an option.
“I think America is great,” Podolski told Bild, via The Sun. “Moving abroad is good for personality development and it would also be good for our children.
“Clearly it would be possible to play with Schweinsteiger in the States. What happened to (Schweinsteiger) is unfair.
“It is not correct to deport Basti to the second team. A coach must always keep the doors open to all players.”
Schweinsteiger hasn’t featured for United since March (vs Manchester City) where he came on as a substitute with 20 minutes remaining.
