Manager Erik ten Hag is actively seeking a high-calibre forward for next season and has been monitoring Toney, who has expressed his desire to leave Brentford and join a top-tier club.

This development has piqued the interest of the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham. While United are also in the race for the 27-year-old, there is apprehension about Brentford's rumored £100m valuation of Toney.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe acknowledges the need for substantial investment in new signings to revive stagnant United side. However, he is skeptical about Toney's market value and is believed to place a valuation closer to £70m on the forward.

Ratcliffe is aware of the intense competition from Chelsea and Arsenal and is unwilling to engage in a bidding war with their rivals.

Despite his accomplishments, some key figures at United are mindful of Toney's lack of experience in the Champions League and his limited international exposure with just one England cap to his name.

Toney has scored two goals in his three league appearances following his return to the Brentford XI.
