Terry offered new Chelsea deal

Chelsea have announced they have offered John Terry a new one-year contract extension and the former England captain is considering the offer.

Terry has entered the final few weeks of his current deal and had appeared set to leave last season’s Premier League champions at the end of the season.

The 35-year-old looked set to bow out of his Chelsea career with a red card after he was sent off for the second time this season when they lost 3-2 to Sunderland last week.

Suspended for the final two games of the season, Terry was set to bid farewell to the Chelsea fans after the last game of the season against Leicester on Sunday before weighing up offers from clubs in China.

However, incoming Chelsea manager Antonio Conte had reportedly informed the board they wanted the club to extend Terry’s stay and the Chelsea captain is now considering a 12-month contract extension tabled by the club.

Despite an indifferent campaign from the Chelsea captain, Terry is still regarded as the best central defender at the club.

Having said that, however, of central defenders to have made at least 20 appearances across Europe’s top five leagues this season, only two have garnered a lower WhoScored rating than Terry (6.55).
