Tottenham on alert with Real Madrid open to sale of Croat

Tottenham have been made aware to the possibility of signing Mateo Kovacic from Real Madrid this summer with the European champions open to his departure, reports London Evening Standard.

Kovacic has struggled to nail down a regular starting berth for the Spanish side since arriving in August 2015 under former manager Rafa Benitez and could be sacrificed in order to free up to fund a world-record move for Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe.

Tottenham have been made aware of the 23-year-old’s potential availability this summer but may have to break their rigid wage structure to land the central midfielder, which would seem unlikely.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are one of the few remaining Premier League sides that haven’t made a single signing this summer and Kovacic would certainly add a capable ball-carrier to their midfield options.

Of players that have attempted at least 50 dribbles in the last two La Liga campaigns, only Madrid teammate Toni Kroos (77.9%) has a better success rate than Kovacic (76.9%).
