David de Gea is not looking to force through a move to Real Madrid contrary to reports he has asked Manchester United for the club’s blessing this summer, claims ESPN.
The Spain international has re-emerged as a top transfer target for Madrid two years after his failed return to the Spanish capital and reports had emerged suggesting the goalkeeper had asked United to step aside and let him leave this summer.
Senior figures at United accept there would be an attraction for De Gea to return to the city where he grew up to play for another of the biggest clubs in the world but are confident the goalkeeper will remain at the club and turn down the chance to leave like he did last summer.
There is also the fact that De Gea has not indicated he wants to leave United for Madrid, contrary to several media reports in the last few weeks that have mooted the goalkeeper with a €75m (£63m) switch to Spain.
Only Yohann Pele (17) and Hugo Lloris (15) have kept more clean sheets in Europe’s top five leagues this season than De Gea (14).
