Atletico winger the latest to make move to struggling Monaco

Monaco have confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid to loan Gelson Martins for the remainder of the season.

The Portugal international only signed for the Spanish side last summer, arriving on a free transfer from Sporting, but failed to make an impression on Diego Someone.

The 23-year-old started just one of eight league appearances for the club and in 12 outings in total failed to have a hand in a single goal.

Martins had been an effective player in the final third in Liga NOS, and Monaco will no doubt hope that he can recreate the sort of form that saw him score 14 league goals and register 17 assists in his last two seasons in Lisbon.

The player said of his move to France, “I am very happy to arrive at AS Monaco. I cannot wait to get back to the field with my new teammates and do my best to help the team.”
