Napoli star a major doubt for Inter clash

Napoli star Lorenzo Insigne has avoided a muscle tear but remains a huge doubt for their top of the table clash against Inter on Saturday.

Insigne was subbed off midway through Napoli’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester City on Tuesday as a precaution, although there were fears he’d suffered a serious muscle injury.

Scan results have shown that the Italy international is just suffering from muscle fatigue but his availability for Saturday’s colossal clash with Inter remains in doubt.

“Lorenzo Insigne, who was substituted as a precaution in the second half of the match against Manchester City was subjected to further medical examination today,” a statement read on the club’s official website.

“The tests ruled out any lesion in the affected area, and confirmed the diagnosis of muscular fatigue made in the dressing room at the Etihad. The forward will receive treatment today at Castelvolturno, and his condition will be evaluated tomorrow.”

Napoli star a major doubt for Inter clash

Napoli have a 100% record in Serie A this season and will be desperate to open up a eight-point lead over Juventus with a win against Inter, who currently occupy second, on Saturday night.

Inter have already benefitted from the fact they have had a full week to prepare for this match but the loss of Insigne would be a further boost to Luciano Spalletti’s side.

The 26-year-old has played a direct hand in seven goals in eight league games this season (three goals, four assists), while only Juventus No.10 Paulo Dybala (8.25) has a higher WhoScored rating than Insigne (8.11) in Serie A.
