Olivier Giroud has rejected the chance to join Marseille and wants to discuss a contract extension with Chelsea.
The France international only joined Chelsea in January but has been linked with a move away following Antonio Conte’s dismissal.
New manager Maurizio Sarri wanted to overhaul his offensive options but missed out on top target Gonzalo Higuain to AC Milan.
Marseille offered Giroud the chance to return to France but the 31-year-old snubbed their advances and is keen to extend his stay at Chelsea until 2020.
“No, I am happy here at Chelsea,” he told the London Evening Standard when asked whether he considered Marseille’s offer.
“I just arrived a few months ago and just starting to settle well. I still have one year [of my contract] to go with Chelsea, plus maybe another one.
“I’m going to discuss that with the club at the right time. There is no rush.”
Giroud featured in all seven of France’s matches during the 2018 World Cup, starting six matches for les Bleus.
Despite the fact France won the World Cup, Giroud failed to score in Russia and didn’t even muster a shot on target from 13 attempts.
After joining Chelsea from Arsenal at the start of the year, Giroud only netted three times from 13 league appearances.
Judging by that photo, he really wants the contract extension...
