Neymar willing to make huge sacrifice to secure Barcelona return

Neymar is willing to take a 50 per cent paycut in order to return to Barcelona this summer, claims Mundo Deportivo.

The Brazil international has entered the final two years of his current Paris Saint-Germain contract and has rejected the French club's attempts at securing his long-term future.

Neymar sealed a shock £200m world-record transfer to PSG from Barcelona in the summer of 2017 in order to step out of Lionel Messi's shadow and become the world's best player.

However, the 27-year-old has been linked with a move back to Camp Nou ever since and was desperate to reunite with Messi and Co. last summer.

Discussions between PSG and Barcelona have proved frosty in recent years and the coronavirus pandemic will prove another obstacle in any potential negotiations.

Transfer valuations have been tipped to tumble as a result as the global outbreak of COVID-19 but PSG will be desperate to avoid taking a financial hit on Neymar.

Neymar acknowledges Barcelona are in financial turmoil and he will have to make some compromises if he wants to return.

The Brazilian wants to wait for assurances from Barcelona they will make a move for his services before putting his cards on the table but is willing to take an enormous pay cut.

If Neymar's time at PSG is to come to an end this summer then it will no doubt be viewed as a disappointment.

Signed to help push PSG over the line in the Champions League, the Ligue 1 giants have never made it beyond the quarter finals in that time.

Neymar has also suffered at least one long-term injury in all three of his seasons at PSG, featuring in just 49% of all available league minutes for the club.

When Neymar has been fit enough to play, however, he has generally been outstanding, illustrated by 73 goals and assists in 52 league matches.
