Liverpool defender accepts ban

Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho has opted against challenging the results of his failed drugs test, according to The Daily Mail.

Sakho, 26, is currently under investigation by UEFA after failing a drugs test in the aftermarth of their Europa League victory over Manchester United on 17 March.

The France international is thought to have been taking an illegal type of fat burner, similar to the substance that saw Liverpool teammate Kolo Toure banned for six months.

Sakho is currently waiting for the outcome of his B sample before a sentence will be given to the central defender but he is looking at a ban ranging from six months up to two years.

The news comes as a huge blow for Liverpool and their ambitions to win the Europa League this season. He had been forming a solid partnership with Dejan Lovren in recent weeks, but will not feature for the club anymore this season, and perhaps again.

However, Liverpool have actually enjoyed more success without Sakho in the starting XI (53.8%) in the league this season compared to their win ratio with him in the team (38.1%).
