Chelsea consider blockbuster move for Manchester United forward

Chelsea have joined the race to sign Manchester United forward Anthony Martial, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Martial’s future at United remains unclear after reportedly turning down a new contract from the club.

The France international’s existing deal is not due to expire until the end of next season but United have an option to extend by a further 12 months.

However, Martial is reportedly keen to leave Old Trafford this summer unless he receives assurances about regular playing time next season.

Martial has endured a turbulent time under Jose Mourinho and has dropped further down the pecking order following Alexis Sanchez’s arrival in January.

Juventus and Barcelona have already been heavily linked with a move for Martial in the last month, but now Chelsea are keen on his signature.

Another busy summer is expected at Chelsea with Antonio Conte set to leave the club after two seasons.

Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata have been linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge and now Martial is being considered as a possible incoming at the club.

Martial has only started 17 league matches this season, making a further 12 appearances from the bench.

Despite a lack of regular playing time, Martial has still weighed in with a direct hand in 14 league goals this term (nine goals, five assists).

In fact, only Olivier Giroud has scored or assisted more Premier League goals as a substitute as Martial this term (six).
