Bayern Munich midfielder cools talk of Conte reunion at Chelsea
Arturo Vidal has poured cold water on suggestions he could seek to leave Bayern Munich in a bid to reunite with Antonio Conte at Chelsea this summer.
Vidal, 29, enjoyed three successful years under Conte’s tutelage before the 47-year-old left Juventus in 2014 to become Italy’s national team manager.
The Chile international earned his fierce and combative reputation with Conte as manager before securing a high profile move to Bayern Munich in 2016.
Vidal has struggled to nail down a regular starting berth under Carlo Ancelotti this season and has been linked with a summer move for Chelsea, but the midfielder insists he has no reason to leave the Allianz Arena.
“These are just rumours that are emerging quickly,” Vidal told SportBild. “After all, I played four very successful years under coach Conte at Juventus.
“But there is no reason for me to leave Bayern. I wear this jersey with pride. I feel happy, my wife feels happy, and the children are happy. And I still have big goals in Munich.”
Vidal played a key role in Bayern’s 5-1 demolition of Arsenal on Wednesday night as Ancelotti’s men have all but secured their name in the hat for the next round.
In the last two Bundesliga campaigns Vidal has completed more tackles than any other Bayern player (119).
