Everton manager Ronald Koeman has revealed he is looking to bring in two more players before the close of the transfer window, but has remained coy on reports linking the Toffees with a move for Chelsea’s Diego Costa.
The Spain international is expected to leave Chelsea before the close of the transfer window having been told by Antonio Conte that he has no future at the club.
Indeed, Costa is yet to be included in any match day squad for the Blues this season, with the former Atletico Madrid man pining for a return to Spain.
Everton have been busy in the transfer window this summer already, bringing in no fewer than seven new players, but after a hectic week that saw the Merseyside outfit play three away games in seven days, Koeman has admitted he is looking to add new faces to the squad this week.
"We need at least two more players, to get numbers up but the most important is to have a striker and one more player because that's what we need," the Dutchman is quoted as saying by Sky Sports after Everton’s 2-0 loss to Chelsea on Sunday.
"If you look to all the squads of the big teams, they have so many options and if we get everybody back like Seamus Coleman, Morgan Schneiderlin, Yannick Bolasie, Davy Klassen, Ross Barkley and the rest, then you're talking about six or seven first team players.
"I'm always confident because we did some good business but everybody knows and the board knows the importance of those two signings."
When quizzed on reports linking Everton with a move for Costa, however, Koeman opted to keep his cards close to his chest, adding: "I don't know [about Costa]. We are looking at players who are available and if we sign somebody, it is somebody who makes the team better.
"I don't speak about names, about players. It is the media who is talking about Costa or other players, but we are looking and we do our job and hopefully, we will arrange it [a striker to arrive] for next week."
