Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes Francis Coquelin has suffered a reoccurrence of the knee injury he sustained last season suggesting he will be out for months and not weeks.
Coquelin, 25, suffered the injury blocking a shot from N’Golo Kante during Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Chelsea on Saturday.
The defensive midfielder will undergo scans on Monday to find out the full extent of the injury but Arsenal are already fearing the worst.
“Coquelin has a knee injury in the same place he suffered one against West Brom last year,” The Guardian quote Wenger as saying. “We don’t know if the damage is as big. We have to wait for 48 hours, but he left the stadium in a brace, so that’s one negative. I’m a bit worried for that.”
Only Nacho Monreal (6.5) averages more tackles and interceptions combined per game in the Premier League for Arsenal than Coquelin (6.2) this season.
