Paris Saint-Germain sound out top Premier League manager

Paris Saint-Germain will sack Unai Emery if he fails to reach the semi finals of this season’s Champions League and have earmarked Chelsea manager Antonio Conte as a potential replacement, reports Le Parisien.

The Ligue 1 giants committed more than £350m on new players in the summer in an attempt to enjoy unprecedented success in Europe and anything short of that will see Emery lose his job at the end of the season.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has already been touted as PSG’s next manager, but the Parisian outfit have reportedly made contact with Conte’s entourage about the prospect of replacing Emery.

Like Mourinho, Conte’s future in England is uncertain beyond the end of the current campaign. The Italian led Chelsea to the Premier League title in his first season in charge but only agreed to a pay rise in the summer, refusing to extend his contract beyond 2019.

Conte is currently averaging 2.29 points per game as Chelsea manager, which represents the best return in his managerial career - even surpassing his work at Juventus.

Emery’s current deal is due to expire in the summer but the 46-year-old will be entitled to another 12 months if he guides PSG into the last four of the Champions League, while lifting the European trophy would likely result in a new contract.
