Real Madrid target open to signing new Chelsea deal

Chelsea have received welcome news after Thibaut Courtois revealed he would be happy to sign a new contract at the club.

Courtois has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid this season but Antonio Conte’s side have no interest in parting ways with their No.1 goalkeeper, although contract extension talks have not yet started.

The Belgium international, who spent three years on loan at Atletico Madrid, still has two years left to run on his existing deal but Chelsea are reportedly keen to reward the 25-year-old with a new long-term contract to end any lingering interest from Madrid.

“Contract talks haven’t opened but I am happy at Chelsea,” AS quote Courtois as saying after Chelsea’s FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal on Saturday. “I hope they reward me with a good contract, then there will be no doubt I will sign it.”

Chelsea may want to solve Courtois’ future sooner rather than latter with Manchester United growing increasingly confident that David De Gea will snub Madrid this summer to remain at Old Trafford.

With Ederson Moares heading to Manchester City, Madrid may turn back their attentions to Courtois and look to take advantage of his contract situation to prize him away from Stamford Bridge.

Courtois finished the season with more clean sheets than any other goalkeeper in the Premier League (16).
