Bayern midfielder ruled out for three months

Bayern Munich midfielder Mario Gotze has been ruled out for between 10 to 12 weeks with a groin injury picked up on international dut, the Bundesliga champions have announced.

Gotze, 23, limped off midway through the first half of Germany’s 1-0 defeat to Ireland on Thursday night.

The former Borussia Dortmund star will now undergo surgery on his groin before undergoing a rehabilitation period that could see him out of action until the New Year.

Gotze joined Bayern in 2013 but has struggled to make any significant impression under Pep Guardiola and despite starting the season in relatively decent fashion, he has still be used as a substitute in three of Bayern’s eight league matches thus far.
